Bid documents for the new fire station #4 will be available in early
September 2000. The bid process will follow the same process as station #5,
following about one month behind. The site for this station is located at the
west end of the RIAC park, west of the airport terminal.
This station will replace the existing facility which was built in the early
1950's. The station has the need for asbestos abatement. It has exposed water
and gas lines, a leaking roof which can no longer be patched, ceilings which are
falling, deteriorated soffit and facia, ventilation problems deemed hazardous to
the firefighters, inefficient insulation, inadequate heating and air
conditioning and poor station design.
